Inspired to be their best selves
Over the last 4 years, we have been running
our #mybestself campaign, to learn from different women about what makes
them step up to be their best self in any given situation.
In 2021, we decided to focus on a
particular audience, to understand what drives them: the women and men who set
up or work in the charities which we support through our ‘Mantra Changes Lives’
initiative. Does it take a particular kind of person to
devote their working life to helping people? Is it a calling? Or did an event
occur in their lives which drew them to this work?
I’m sure we will get 12 different answers
from 12 different people, and I am fascinated to find out what those answers
are. Stay with me through the year as I interview some remarkable people who
work in the charitable or not-for-profit sector, who are changing lives every
day. They are people who have truly stepped up to be their best selves.
One of our long-standing charity partners is Breast Cancer Haven, a wonderful charity who ran healing centres across the UK, to offer support and complementary therapies to women going through breast cancer.
We had hoped to feature them this month as our Charity of the Month, and carry out an
interview with one of their team.
Unfortunately,
this wonderful charity had such a tough time during the Covid crisis,
without its normal access to fundraising and other revenue streams, that they
have had made the difficult decision to close.
So, as have decided to partner instead with breast cancer awareness charity, CoppaFeel, instead. We will be donating funds from the
sales of our Heart Necklace to CoppaFeel! from now onwards instead.
CoppaFeel! was founded by Kris
Hallenga and her twin sister, after Kris was diagnosed at the age of just 22
with incurable breast cancer. She was unaware that breast cancer could affect
people in their twenties and knew very little about the disease.
Kris knew she wanted to get the message
out there to young people that detecting cancer early means you have a higher
chance of surviving and recovering. She wanted people to learn from her story,
and become pro-active about their own health. Hence, she founded this amazing
charity, which works tirelessly to promote breast cancer awareness to young
people.
They speak to young people in their
natural habitat – at festivals, on university campuses, at fun runs and events,
on Instagram. We hope, maybe, that buying a piece of meaningful might be
another place to reach young people, which is why we are making our donations
to CoppaFeel!, in place of Breast Cancer Haven.
We’ll bring you our next charity
interview, just as soon as we can.
Our Mantra Collaboration
We are
helping to support CoppaFeel!’s vital work, by donating funds from the sales of our
Heart Necklace to the charity. Although we developed it with Breast Cancer
Haven, this charity is no longer operating, so we have made the decision to
donate any funds raised to CoppaFeel! instead.
