April sees the London
Marathon happening – an event which requires immense determination and
perseverance to complete. I have managed it twice, and both times required me
to dig really deep, just to find a way of getting around.
Every part of your
body is aching, your lungs feel like they are exploding, and that insistent
voice in your head keeps telling you that you can stop all this pain, just by
slowing to a walk. Somehow, you have to find a way of blocking out that voice,
to enable you to continue.
For me, repeating
mantras to myself, over and over, was the way through. It was the only way to
drown out that voice. ‘Find a way’ was one of the many mantras I kept saying to
myself as I ran – just find a way to get round, to keep running, to finish.
Let me tell you more
of the story behind this particular mantra, and why I was so keen to turn it
into a piece of Mantra Jewellery.
We were inspired by the
remarkable story of Diana Nyad, who swam 111 miles across shark-infested waters
from Cuba to Florida. It was virtually impossible, as the waters are dangerous,
the distance is very long, and the navigation incredibly hard. But it was a
challenge that Diana had decided she wanted to complete, for her own
satisfaction.
So, she kept trying –
and failing - from the age of 30. She succeeded on her fifth attempt, at the
age of 64! She was absolutely determined that one day, she would find a way to
succeed, so she never gave up trying. ‘Find a way’ became her mantra on that
last attempt.
This is such a great
example of persistence and determination, and the triumph of the human spirit
over adversity and challenge.
For me, whatever you
face in life, ‘Find a way’ is a brilliant mantra to bring to mind. It acts as
an encouragement, whether in our business lives, our personal lives, or our
emotional lives – to keep going, to keep trying, to test new approaches, to
make new attempts - until one day, we find a way to succeed.
Some people are
naturally resourceful, and live this mantra every day of their lives, without
needing a reminder.
But for those of us who
can sometimes feel defeated by life’s challenges; or who feel like giving up
after a few set-backs; or who need encouragement, when everything we try seems
too difficult – then calling to mind the mantra, ‘Find a way’, could be enough
to spur us on.
Share your thoughts with us on this
month’s mantra, and let us know what it means to you.
Wear this powerful
mantra every day, to remind yourself to keep going: keep persevering, keep
looking, keep trying, until you find a way; or gift it to someone who needs
encouragement to spur them on.
As our Mantra of the Month, our ‘Find a Way’ Necklace is 15% off throughout April.
