10 mantras inspired by Michelle Obama

Posted: by Rhian Thursday, 20 October 2016 @ 14:34

Michelle, or FLOTUS (which I discovered today stands for First Lady of the United States!) has been in the spotlight since Barack took to the White House over 7 years ago.  She entered our lives as the First Lady, but has carved her own path like no other, one of integrity, courage, authenticity and determination. We felt such an inspirational lady needed her own set of mantras, so here are ours inspired by FLOTUS…

Hard work brings sweet rewards

Michelle on her education: "I never cut class. I loved getting A’s, I liked being smart. I liked being on time. I thought being smart is cooler than anything in the world."

Laugh often and much

She may be one of the most powerful women in the world, but that hasn’t made her straight laced or change her character! We love her sense of humour and lust for life. If you haven't seen it, watch the full car pool here, it’s perfection.

I am fearless & therefore powerful

Michelle on opportunity: "When you’ve worded hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back, and you give folks the same chances that helped you succeed."

Now go and set the world on fire

Michelle on success: "Whether you come from a council estate or a country estate, your success will be determined by your own confidence and fortitude."

Be the best version of you

Michelle on integrity: "One of the lessons that I grew up with was to always stay true to yourself and never let what somebody else says distract you from your goals. And so when I hear about negative and false attacks, I really don't invest any energy in them, because I know who I am."

Be still, be present, be mindful

Michelle on stress relief: "Exercise is really important to me - it's therapeutic. So if I'm ever feeling tense or stressed or like I'm about to have a meltdown, I'll put on my iPod and head to the gym or out on a bike ride along Lake Michigan with the girls."

May my body be strong, my heart wild, and my spirit free

Michelle on nurturing: "I am an example of what is possible when girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by people around them. I was surrounded by extraordinary women in my life who taught me about quiet strength and dignity."

We shine brightest together

It's all about team work, Barack on Michelle: "And I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last 16 years ... the rock of our family, the love of my life"

Choose to shine

To Michelle Obama, stylish and strong, feminine and powerful - an inspiration to women around the world, we salute you!
